Frisco (CBSNewsTexas.com) – More than a week after a random shooting near a Frisco Walmart left one man injured and another dead, police still have no suspect in custody and are continuing to investigate. It is said that
CBS News Texas’ Olivia Leach spoke with the niece of the 62-year-old Frisco man killed in the shooting. His family is pleading with the community for help in identifying his killer.
“They came here looking for a better life, and this happened to them,” Caitlin Nguyen said. I shouldn’t have done it,” he said.
Caitlin Nguyen’s uncle, Dung Doan, immigrated to the United States from Vietnam nearly a year ago.
“For him and his wife, when they got their visas to come to the United States, they thought this was a safer environment. This is a land of opportunity,” Nguyen said.
Doan worked long hours six days a week at a bakery to support his family and his son, who had just entered college.
“He had a hard life, but he always tried to provide for his family,” Nguyen said. “Like any parent, you want more for your children than what you had.”
But he was shot and killed in what police are calling a random shooting near a Frisco Walmart earlier this month.
“For some reason, I never thought something like this would happen to someone so close to me,” Nguyen said.
Frisco police are investigating the shooting, but confirmed there was an armed robbery. Zach Lowe, 20, who was shot in the back but survived, told his family that someone asked him for a cigarette before he was shot, and then he demanded money.
“Part of me feels so angry, angry and distraught,” Nguyen said. “It seems like the person shot randomly for no reason.”
Doan’s family is hoping someone will come forward with information about his killer.
“The person who took his life had no right to do that and is still out there. So I urge anyone who has information to think about the innocent lives he took and the harm done to them.” We really hope people come forward to help others.” “Police have found this person, because as you can see, he’s dangerous,” Nguyen said.
Doan’s niece has set up a GoFundMe to help the family with funeral expenses and help her son attend college.
Frisco police are reminding area residents to be extra vigilant and avoid walking alone, looking down at cell phones and wearing headphones when out and about, all of which could make you a target for crime.
Frisco Police are asking for the public’s assistance in the investigation. If you have information about the shooting, please call (972) 292-6010. You can also submit anonymous tips by texting FRISCOPD and tip to 847411.
