AUSTIN, Texas — Health officials are asking people to avoid eating certain melons and pre-cut foods as a salmonella outbreak spreads to 32 states, including Texas.
Initially, at least 43 people in 15 states were infected, 17 of whom were hospitalized. The outbreak has now resulted in nearly 100 illnesses and two deaths in Minnesota as health officials continue to investigate.
In Texas, a voluntary recall was issued for freshness-guaranteed products sold at Walmart with a “best before” date between November 7th and November 12th. The recall includes a variety of products, including seasonal blends, melon mixes and cantaloupe chunks. Fruit medleys sold at RaceTrac gas stations are also included in the recall notice.
CF Dallas, LLC and Sofia Produce say all of the recalled products are already past their expiration dates, but anyone who freezes items for later use should either throw them away or immediately get a refund. I am calling on you to accept it. A complete list of recalled items can be found here.

It also recommends washing any items or surfaces that may have come into contact with the recalled fruit using hot, soapy water or in the dishwasher.
