October 11, 2023 — In a shocking incident in the early morning hours of October 10, 2023, our Al-Fakura House in southern Al-Rimal, Gaza was destroyed. Al-Fakhoura House was a safe haven for students and families in an area where civil society and international organizations were based.
EAA’s Al-Fakhoura Program was created in 2010 as a direct response to the memory of the victims of the UNRWA Al-Fakhoura School in Gaza. The school was bombed while being used as a shelter by civilian refugees.
EAA reiterates that collective punishment, reprisals and attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure are serious violations of international humanitarian law.
Schools and other civilian infrastructure, including those sheltering displaced families, must never be attacked. The Education Above All Foundation supports calls to achieve an immediate ceasefire and end violence everywhere.
