InTown Gallery’s December show features woodworking artist Roger Harvey. Using curves, intricate surfaces, and flowing lines, Roger’s work soars. Bowls, lamps and vases will feature. I think you’ll agree that Roger Harvey is a tree wizard. Wizardry with Wood It opens on Dec. 1 and a reception will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m.
“One of my current focuses is the ‘globe’ lamp,” Harvey said. “The smaller ones are usually about a foot tall and have dimmable spherical or cylindrical bulbs. My larger lamps are over 40 inches tall. They make a great impression in a room. The base is turned on a lathe, some using multiple sets of axes to produce three to five curved sides spiraling out of the base. It is very difficult to explain, but the effect is is beautiful. Come see it in the gallery!”
Mr. Harvey is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. He directed his Center for Arts and Crafts there until completing his bachelor’s degree. On Cape Cod he was a potter and teacher for 11 years before he became a goldsmith. He ran his own custom jewelry store in Boston for eight years before finding employment in the jewelry manufacturing industry. He is currently a craftsman passionate about the natural beauty of wood.
The gallery features all new art, including Christmas ornaments, jewelry, wall sculptures, paintings, thermoformed glass, and gifts for every taste and wallet. InTown Gallery has a wide selection of holiday gifts.
