Four people were injured in the incident at the Beavercreek store.
The man who opened fire at the Beavercreek Walmart, injuring four people, may have been motivated, at least in part, by a “racially or ethnically motivated violent” ideology, the FBI says. It was announced on Wednesday.
Investigators said they were examining evidence, including the diary of the attacker, Benjamin Charles Jones, and were continuing to investigate Monday’s incident.
According to the FBI, around 8:36 p.m., a gunman entered Walmart and shot and killed four people who were shopping at the time, including two black women, a white woman, and a white man. It has been specified that All victims were taken to local hospitals, three in critical condition and four with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said officers arrived at the store at 8:42 p.m. and found the gunman dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to the FBI, the 20-year-old legally purchased a .45-caliber handgun from a Dayton-area store on Nov. 18.
“Investigators continue to investigate the subject’s background to determine if the ATF Form 4473 responses are inaccurate,” the agency said in a statement.
The FBI is asking anyone with information about the shooter to contact the FBI at 1-800-Call-FBI (1-800-2255-324) or tips.fbi.gov.
