LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – It’s a very busy day in Lancaster, starting the night before Thanksgiving.
People gather at home with friends and family for the holidays, perhaps for drinks.
“We encourage everyone to make plans and go out tonight. Everyone wants to have a good time, but we also want everyone to be safe.” Todd, Lancaster Police Department・Mr. Greger said.
Last Thanksgiving, police arrested hundreds of drunk drivers across Pennsylvania.
“If you plan on drinking, please don’t drive. If you’re walking around town, we want you to feel safe doing so and know that our police officers are out and watching you.” said Greger.
In some Lancaster County jurisdictions, officers are looking for signs of impaired driving.
After catching up with your loved ones on Thursday, keep yourself busy with events happening throughout the weekend, starting with the tree lighting at Penn Square on Friday.
“Friday at 5 o’clock [pm] That’s when the event begins. We’ll start with live music and then we’ll have a visit from Santa,” said Kate Wright, the city’s special events and program planner.
Mayor Danen Solace will also be in attendance for the tree lighting ceremony.
The small businesses that move in on Saturday will be the talk of the town, including the small business Fox Duck.
“Lancaster residents support each other and it’s a truly inclusive city. Lancaster residents do a great job supporting small businesses and we’re lucky to be a part of that,” Fox Duck Owner said. , said Ryan Keats.
“Small businesses are the backbone of Lancaster’s economy and supporting them is so important,” said Wright.
Once the weekend is over and the festival is over, it can be hectic to get home.
“The Sunday after Thanksgiving is the worst day for travelers because everyone goes home,” said PennDOT spokeswoman Fritzi Schreffler.
