DETROIT (WXYZ) — Hundreds of thousands of people flood the streets of downtown Detroit for the Thanksgiving parade, Lions game and other events in the area.
“We love the city of Detroit. We love the floats. We love Thanksgiving in Detroit,” said Detroit resident Martin Wither.
Wither and his family were walking down Woodward Avenue Wednesday, looking at the floats participating in the Thanksgiving parade.
Wither said she wanted to check out the floats a day earlier since she won’t be participating in the parade.
“I love being able to walk down Woodward Street, where there are no cars,” Wither said.
The Wizards aren’t the only ones who decided to enjoy the float a little early.
“It’s very exciting. It’s really getting Thanksgiving ready for tomorrow’s parade,” said Shelby Township resident Nancy Monk.
Tony Michaels, CEO of The Parade Company, said it took a year and more than 1,500 volunteers to get the Thanksgiving parade ready.
“This is one of the biggest events in the Midwest,” Michaels said. “This is the largest ever in the state.”
Michaels said it will be great to see people gather for parades and other events in downtown Detroit.
“A lot of people will do the Turkey Trot, watch the parade, and then hop on to Ford Field. It’s the perfect triple threat for Thanksgiving morning,” Michaels said.
Speaking of the Lions, 7 Action News caught up with the Wright family, who drove 10 hours from Virginia just to watch the Lions play on Thanksgiving Day.
“We’ve always been Lions fans and watch every game,” Wally Wright Jr. said.
