A Thanksgiving feast requires a lot of preparation, but even the best cook can forget something. Maybe the guest didn’t have time to buy a bottle of wine or just remembered to bring rolls for dinner.
Grocery stores know that, and some supermarkets will be open long enough on Thursday to allow customers to pick up pre-ordered pre-ordered turkeys and prepared meals.
But not everyone is open-minded. Don’t run to your local Walmart or Target. Both chains have started closing on Thanksgiving since the pandemic, making it a permanent holiday for front-line workers. Aldi, Costco, Market Street, Sam’s Club, Target, Trader His Joe’s, and Walmart will also be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
Many local supermarkets have shorter days. Some ethnic shops stay open longer.
Here’s where you can still shop for groceries on Thursday:
Albertsons: 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Central Market: 8am to 2pm
El Rancho Supermercado: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
El Rio Grande Latin Market: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Fiesta Mart 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Hmart: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
HEB: 6 a.m. to noon.
Kroger: 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sprouts Farmers Market: 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Tom Thumb: 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Whole Foods Market: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
99 Ranch: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Pass by a closed store.
Aldi, Costco, Market Street, Sam’s Club, Target, Trader Joe’s, Walmart.
Drugstores will be open at the following stores.
If you have to make an unexpected trip to the drugstore on Thanksgiving, you’ll probably have to make a long drive. CVS says most of its stores, or about 80% of its stores, will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, so find one near you that’s open. Similarly, Walgreens said most of its stores will be closed, but nearly all 700 of Walgreens’ 24-hour stores will remain open on Thanksgiving Day.
