SAN DIEGO — The Padres community felt the impact of team president and owner Peter Seidler’s death Tuesday.

Outside Petco Park, fans laid flowers in front of Seidler’s portrait. Padres pitcher Yu Darvish also paid his respects at the temporary memorial and expressed his sadness on social media.
“I am heartbroken to hear of the sad passing of Peter Seidler. I am sure everyone who knew him would agree when I say that Peter was a truly wonderful human being and that it was always a blessing to be around him. He was a life teacher and taught me countless lessons from every interaction we had. May his beautiful soul rest in peace,” Darvish said. He spoke on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Padres infielder Matt Carpenter also commented on Seidler, saying he was praying for his family and saying, “Peter was a great guy and will be sorely missed.”
Also in downtown San Diego, Ground Floor Murals, 1202 Kettner Blvd., honored Seidler with a black-and-white mural. The mural reads, “Thank you Peter Seidler 1960-2023.”
The San Diego State Aztecs also held a moment of silence Monday night before their men’s basketball game against the Long Beach State 49ers.
Mr. Seidler is also known for his philanthropic efforts, creating the Lucky Duck Foundation, which has raised $18 million for the Pedal for the Cause Cancer Foundation, and is helping tens of thousands of San Diego residents every day during the COVID-19 pandemic. Petco Park was the location for vaccinations.
