LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — You wouldn’t know it from the weather outside, but the holiday season is upon us and the festivities begin this weekend in Louisville.
The 34th annual Festival of Trees and Lights began Friday morning at Slugger Field. Dozens of families view the numerous Christmas trees on display and bid on their favorites. All for the benefit of Norton Children’s Transportation.
And of course, the kids couldn’t wait to tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas this year.
“I’m going to ask Santa if I can ride in his sleigh,” Ricky said.
“So what do you think? You can get a candy cane because you know they always have candy canes,” Wesley said.
“It is important that we can raise these funds so that children in our community can receive the care they need at the state’s only freestanding children’s hospital,” said Lena Iwu, Norton Children’s Hospital Foundation Development Coordinator. .
The Festival of Trees and Lights runs until Sunday, November 12th.
Nearly 50 cars lined up Friday night to be among the first to cross this year’s Lights Under Louisville, which opened Friday. The world’s only underground light show features more than 6.5 million dots of light, captivating even the youngest visitors.
“Lights Under Louisville” runs through January 1, 2024.
Meanwhile, people in the NuLu area will join in the holiday fun at Jingle Fest on Saturday, Nov. 11.
“It’s about bringing the community together,” said Reverie salesperson Kat Strain. “Instead of shopping and worrying about buying things, you can actually come and spend time with your friends and then find items that you’ll want to give as a gift.”
Bringing an early holiday to town, Jingle Fest gets you in the mood with music and cocktails.
Leather goods company Clayton & Crews is excited that Shelby Street will be closed to increase interaction with neighbors.
“We succeed just as small local businesses in our neighborhoods succeed. We want to promote that and be at the heart of it all as well. Jingle Fest is Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
