WASHINGTON — The nation will come together Saturday to celebrate America’s veterans.
The federal holiday on November 11th is associated with the end of World War I and was not officially called Veterans Day until 1954.
On Saturday, residents of the Washington, D.C., area will be able to gather on the National Mall to participate in a celebration honoring our nation’s veterans.

Here’s what’s happening on the National Mall on Saturday, November 11th. All events are free.
Storyteller at the Vietnam Women’s Memorial
Time: 9am to 11am
The event commemorates the 30th anniversary of the inauguration of the Vietnam Women’s Memorial. Residents can come here to hear veterans and civilian women share their Vietnam War experiences.

Veterans Day at the World War II Memorial
Time: 9am to 10am
The National Park Service and Friends of the National World War II Memorial pay tribute to the more than 16 million men and women who served in the U.S. military during World War II.
World War II veterans lay wreaths at the memorial’s Freedom Wall in memory of those who were unable to return home.

Guided tour: World War II Memorial
Time: 10am to 10:30am
Residents can take guided tours and explore the history and art of the World War II Memorial with rangers. Does it not work? This event will take place every Saturday and Sunday until Christmas.

Guided tour: Korean War Veterans Memorial and Vietnam War Veterans Memorial
Time: 11am to 11:45am
Residents can take guided tours and explore the history and art of the Korean War Veterans Memorial and Vietnam Veterans Memorial with rangers. Does it not work? This event will take place every Saturday and Sunday until Christmas.

30th anniversary of establishment of Vietnam Women’s Memorial
Time: 1pm to 2pm
Join us for the 30th anniversary celebration of the Vietnam Women’s Monument. Speakers and honored guests will honor the women who served in Vietnam.
The event will be held on the National Mall, northeast of the Lincoln Memorial.
Veterans Day wreath laying ceremony
Time: 2pm to 3pm
The Naval Memorial holds an annual wreath-laying ceremony to honor our nation’s sailors and show appreciation for their service and sacrifice.
