Just a few miles upriver from the French Quarter lies another vibrant piece of history, where the River Road Historical Society is hosting its annual event this weekend. autumn festival at Destrehan Plantation, 13034 River Road in Destrehan. The Saturday and Sunday festival runs from 9am to 4pm and features a variety of craft stalls, antiques vendors and more from across the country. A south Louisiana festival wouldn’t be complete without food and music. Both festivals will be supplemented with activities for children, such as crafts. The National World War II Museum is busy with a variety of events. Veterans Day Commemoration Ceremony Saturday at 11 a.m. at the U.S. Freedom Pavilion, 945 Magazine Street. All veterans receive free admission to the museum. In addition, the complex is “Our War Too: Women in Service” This exhibit celebrates the efforts, hardships, and accomplishments of the approximately 350,000 American women who served during the war. The theme of the 17th event is “Regional Running” tour de jefferson A Sunday bike ride is a family-friendly way to experience the local scenery. The ride, sponsored by the Jefferson Chamber, draws cycling enthusiasts from all over the country. The four different routes vary in length from 11 miles to 50 miles.
