WOODFIELD — The Monroe County Regional Chamber of Commerce is preparing for several events this Christmas season, including a parade on Nov. 26.
The parade begins at 5 p.m., and people line up on North Pole Street at 4 p.m. The parade will continue south down Main Street and end in front of the park and Brown Community Center. The annual Christmas parade features local marching bands and musical performances, floats representing many local businesses and organizations, and police cars and fire trucks.
Registration for the parade is free. Anyone wishing to register must fill out a form that can be picked up at the Chamber office or on the Chamber’s Facebook page.
The chamber is encouraging Monroe County residents to decorate their vehicles and participate in the parade.
The parade will be followed by a courthouse tree lighting ceremony.
The court is also collecting decorations for the courthouse Christmas tree. Decorations can represent local businesses, organizations, schools, and student groups.
The chamber is asking each group to provide only one ornament. Businesses and organizations should keep in mind that decorations must not be glass and must be able to withstand adverse weather conditions.
Decorations can be returned to the Chamber office on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The deadline for supplying ornaments is November 17th.
The chamber also accepts orders for the following: “Community Snow Angel”. The snow angels will be placed on wooden stakes and placed in the ground around the courthouse. Each snow angel is given a name to commemorate, celebrate, or recognize a community member.
Angel’s fee is $25 and checks can be made out to the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce and mailed to PO Box 643 Woodsfield, OH 43793.
Orders must be placed by Dec. 15, but orders received by Nov. 20 will be displayed at the Christmas parade and courthouse tree lighting.
The chamber also holds a decoration contest for local businesses. Participants can decorate the inside and outside of the store. All businesses in Monroe County and Swiss Ohio Regional School Districts are eligible to participate.
1st and 2nd place will receive a shield.
Anyone interested in participating can email a photo of their business to monroeohiochamber@gmail.com by Dec. 8.
