ALBION – Medina resident David Horne, 7, and his mother, Lynn, are looking for a toy police car as part of this morning’s “Shop with a Cop” event at the Albion Walmart. Rob Riemer, a chief deputy with the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, also joined his mother and son on the shopping spree.
This is the fifth time Walmart has held a “Shop with a Cop” event inside an Albion store. Walmart donated a $4,000 grant to the sheriff’s office for a program that connects sheriff’s office employees with children and their families. Children choose items to help their families or to give as gifts to their families.
Some children prioritized receiving presents from their siblings and parents. Each child spent about $350 on the job.

David’s mother is off work due to illness. She is grateful for her family’s holiday gifts, she said.
Lt. Steve Fox goes shopping with 10-year-old Brandon Calpin of Albion.
Fox said Brandon had a good system for distributing gifts to his loved ones.

Janine Larkin, who is helping coordinate the effort, said she tries to have a different group of kids participate in Shopping with the Cops each year.
